Language Loop English Classes Level Descriptions

Based on conversational learning models, the following English courses focus on speaking, reading, listening and writing of the English language. Common professional or personal American English vocabulary and usage is emphasized.

Beginning Level(20 hours: five weeks of 2 hr long sessions, two times each week)

This course begins by introducing the rudimentary elements of the English language:

  • Alphabet
  • Numbers
  • Pronunciation
  • Simple present verb tense conjugation

The students will practice:

  • Simple present, past and future tenses
  • How to ask and answer questions
  • Basic vocabulary
  • Writing simple sentences

 

Intermediate Level(20 hours: five weeks of 2 hr long sessions, two times each week)

This course will review:

  • Present, past and future perfect verb tense conjugations
  • Professional or personal vocabulary
  • Negotiating conversations
  • Common idioms
  • Irregular verb conjugations

The course will practice:

Writing, reading and speaking comfort with:

  • Conditional or subjunctive sentences
  • Efficiency, accuracy and tone awareness in email messages
  • Reading comprehension of global topics presented in the media
  • Auxiliary and modal verb usage
  • Expressing doubt, interest or desire
  • Common idioms
  • Irregular verb conjugations
  • Other intermediate-advanced topics the students agree to practice/visit (TOEFL preparation)

 

Advanced English (20 hours: five weeks of 2 hr long sessions, two times each week)

This course will review:

  • All verb tense conjugations
  • Efficiency in complex sentence writing for professional or personal use
  • Auxiliary, modal, subjunctive and conditional verb or sentence structures
  • Ability to converse in complex sentences
  • Irregular verb conjugations

This course will practice:

  • Reading comprehension of current world topics by reading news media or literature
  • Efficiency, accuracy and tone awareness in email or other professional writing documents
  • Negotiating in-depth conversations about topics relevant to students in the course
  • Understand differences in American English dialects vs. English language pronunciations
  • Other advanced topics the students agree to practice (e.g. job interviews)
